Air Fryer Baked Potatoes ~ perfect crispy skin with fluffy soft potato inside. Steakhouse style baked potato cooked in the air fryer! This classic side goes with anything!
You all probably guessed I have some sort of obsession with potatoes. Potato Salad, Au Gratin Potatoes, even cheesy stacks of taters baked in a muffin tin. Bring on every last one.
Air Fryer Baked Potatoes – the easy way to crispy skin, fluffy potatoes we crave from our favorite steakhouse you can now enjoy whenever you want at home.
The potato . . . be it ever so humble.
You’ll find a recipe below but this classic side is so easy it almost doesn’t need one.
You can definitely make a potato faster in the microwave, but you’ll never get the crispy skin or fluffy insides like in the air fryer.
Tips for the best Air Fryer Baked Potato:
- Wash the potato then dry it really well. Moist skin will steam and won’t crisp as it should.
- For classic steakhouse baked potatoes, I recommend russets.
- Use potatoes of similar size so they’ll have about the same cooking time.
- Make sure to rub oil on the skin to make sure they’re crispy.
What do I need to air fry a Baked Potato?
Okay, technically these potatoes aren’t baked but the air fryer imitates the taste and texture of baked just as it does for fried foods, like Air Fryer French Fries.
- Air Fryer
- Russet Potatoes
- Oil (olive oil used but canola or vegetable is good too)
- Salt
- All your favorite toppings!
How to bake potatoes in the air fryer:
Preheat the air fryer to 400° for 3 minutes. Wash and dry the potatoes thoroughly (this can be done ahead of time so they potatoes have time to dry!) then poke a few holes in them with a fork or sharp knife.
Rub the olive oil onto the potatoes then sprinkle with salt. I use coarse salt because it’s more like steakhouse baked potatoes, but regular table salt will work well, too.
How long to bake a potato in the air fryer:
Once the potatoes are seasoned, place them in the air fryer so they aren’t touching and cook for 30 minutes turning halfway through cooking or until they potatoes are fork tender.
Another way to tell baked potatoes are done is to gently squeeze their sides (you should be able to press in).
TIP: Leaving space between the potatoes lets the skins crisp and not steam.
NOTE: Cook time may take longer than 30 minutes depending upon which air fryer you’re using, the size of the potatoes and how many potatoes you’re ‘baking’ at the same time.
To serve your Air Fryer Baked Potatoes remove them from the air fryer, make a slit down the center and pinch the ends to open the potato then add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Potato Toppings:
Here are few of my favorite potato toppings:
- butter
- sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)
- shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- crispy bacon bits
- chives
- green onions
- dry Ranch seasoning
- cheese sauce
What to serve with these potatoes:
Okay, now you have the perfect potato – what do you eat with it? There’s no wrong answer, starting with this 20 Minute Honey Balsamic Pork Tenderloin – one of the most popular recipes! Juicy, flavor packed pork with a sweet-tangy glaze that cooks completely in one skillet in just 20 minutes.
Another delicious option is Grilled Lemon-Garlic Chicken Kabobs – marinated simply in lemon, garlic, oregano and olive oil then skewered with vegetables. It’s chicken with a Greek flair!
Or how about St. Louis Style BBQ Ribs – dry rubbed, slow-grilled and slathered with homemade ‘beerbecue’ sauce.
Enjoy!
