WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS RECIPE:

  • This is an ultra easy recipe (even if it’s your first time) for the best coleslaw.
  • It’s my favorite coleslaw recipe and the only one I make for family and friends.
  • You’ll only need 4 simple ingredients from the grocery store to make this recipe.
  • The coleslaw dressing is a perfect balance of lightly sweet and a hint of tang.
  • It goes with almost anything – especially your barbecue favorites.
  • It whips up in just 5 minutes from scratch – great for busy weeknights!
  • Double (or triple!) this classic coleslaw recipe for your next barbecue or potluck.

WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE 5 MINUTE COLESLAW?

  1. packaged shredded green cabbage coleslaw mix from the produce department
  2. mayonnaise (Hellman’s used or your favorite brand)
  3. honey
  4. apple cider vinegar

Optional: small pinch of salt that brings the flavors together.

HOW TO MAKE 5 MINUTE COLESLAW:

Add the mayonnaise, honey and apple cider vinegar to a medium size mixing bowl then sprinkle in about 1/4 teaspoon of salt (small pinch) and whisk to combine. Note: the salt is optional but I think it enhances the flavors.

Next empty the bag of shredded coleslaw into the bowl and stir to evenly coat.

The slaw is ready to serve right away but I recommend popping it in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to let the flavors mingle.

CAN I MAKE COLESLAW AHEAD OF TIME?

Yes! To make this recipe ahead of time whisk the dressing ingredients and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.

When you’re ready to eat, blend the slaw with the dressing and serve.

SUBSTITUTIONS, ADDITIONS AND TIPS FOR 5 MINUTE COLESLAW:

  • Use the dressing with shredded brussels sprouts, shredded broccoli or kale blends.
  • Try light mayonnaise or a mayonnaise-olive oil blend.
  • Red wine vinegar or white vinegar can be used instead of apple cider vinegar (taste will be slightly altered).
  • For best results, refrigerate the slaw for a few minutes to let the flavors come together.
  • Instead of a bag of coleslaw mix, shred your own cabbage using a sharp knife, mandoline, box grater or food processor.
  • Optional add-ins to try next time: shredded carrots, celery seeds, black pepper, green onions or red onion.

EASY MAIN DISHES TO ENJOY WITH COLESLAW:

This slaw goes with almost everything – from hot dogs to fish tacos. Here are a few other ideas:

Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Pork
